As the number of Windows Mobile devices proliferates, so too do the options for using one that looks a little different. Several companies are overlaying their own user interfaces to make Windows Mobile more personal, more customizable or just more fun. If you're committed to the Windows Mobile platform, but you're looking for change or innovation, you might want to check out one of these new devices, all either new to North America or expected to arrive here this fall:
Sony Ericsson Xperia X1: this device (see to image) offers a panel-based home page that users customize with their top nine icons for applications, content, etc.
Samsung Omnia: Use the TouchWiz interface to customize your home view. Interface also includes a scrolling list of icons on the left side of the screen that you drag and drop in the center to open.
HTC Touch Diamond: HTC's TouchFLO interface lets you put your favorite things where you want them and access them with your fingertips. Buttons can line the bottom and right sides of the screen, and sliding your finger on the screen opens or rotates what you're looking at.
Palm Treo Pro: The sleek, shiny and mostly black Treo Pro is a handsome addition to the once heralded Treo line. You've got a BlackBerry-styled QWERTY thumb-keyboard and hi-res 320 x 320-pixel touch screen, in addition to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Palm's also added a convenient button to turn Wi-Fi on and off with this Treo model. While Palm's alterations to Windows Mobile aren't nearly as extensive as what's offered above, it is one of the first companies to deliver more than the standard array features offered by the platform.
