A couple of days ago, we wrote about how Sony Ericsson's eagerly-awaited Xperia X1 may not arrive this year as expected, but could be delayed until early 2009. Today, we've got something considerably more positive to report.

Evidence has surfaced to indicate the eagerly-awaited smartphone may have found a home with an American wireless carrier, AT&T. It arrives in the form of several pictures taken of X1 at the CeBIT tradeshow by phonemag this week.

As you can see from the image below, the logo of this country's largest mobile operator—circled by phonmag—has a prominent place in the user interface. If not permanently, then at least while Sony Ericsson is showing it off during the conference in Hanover, Germany.

Sure, the evidence isn't definitive. After all, the AT&T logo could have placed there for any number of reasons. Perhaps, as engadget points out, it's part of Sony Ericsson's strategy for attracting mobile operators.

Nonetheless, should AT&T pick up the smartphone, it could help Sony Ericsson gain the same type of traction here, where’s its struggled, as it already has in Europe.

The X1 will run on the yet-to-be released 6.1 version of Windows Mobile. It sports a 3-inch, 840 x 480-pixel (WVGA) resolution touch screen and, like many other high-end Windows Mobile Professional devices, you can slide the quad-band, 3G-enabled smartphone's display aside to reveal a full QWERTY thumb-keyboard.

There's also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS for location-based services, FM receiver and 3.2 megapixel camera for picture and video. A microSD slot is available to compliment the X1's 400MB of internal memory with gigabytes of additional storage.

The X1 measures 4.3 x 2.1 x 0.66 inches (110 x 53 x 16.7 millimeters) and weighs in at 5.1 ounces (145 grams).
