Tip: Verizon XV6800/Sprint Mogul - Converting Phone Numbers Into Contacts

By Amy Mayer

The process of converting a phone number from the Verizon Wireless XV6800's call history into a Contact is multi-step and not fully intuitive.

(This smartphone, a Windows Mobile 6 professional slider with a QWERTY keyboard, is sold in the U.S by Sprint as well, but under the name Mogul - see our review - and is also known as the HTC Titan and PPC-6800 or, in Canada, as the HTC P4000 from Telus - see our review.)

Take the following steps to turn a phone number into a contact:

  •  From the call history screen (which you can access from phone mode by pressing "Call History" on the right-hand side), click on a phone number (incoming or outgoing, it doesn't matter) and you'll bring up a screen showing all the times you've called or been called from that number.

  •  Next, press Menu and select Open Call.

  •  Now, the Menu button brings up a Save as Contact option; select it.

  •  From the Select a Contact screen that follows, either select "New Contact" or, if you're adding an additional number to an existing contact, select that person.

  •  Enter the name and, if you like, an identifier for the number (such as mobile, work or home). Then click Save on the lower-left side.

To call a contact, just click Contact on the phone screen and select the person you want to call-the next screen gives you the option to select which phone number to dial if your contact has more than one (and also options for text- or media-messaging).

While a simple "add to contacts" feature on the call history would seem an obvious option this smartphone should have, at least you're not left manually keying in every phone number.
