Tip: Using Your Windows Mobile as an MP3 Player

You may not have as much room on your Windows Mobile Smartphone/Standard or Professional/Pocket PC as you'd have on a standalone mp3 player—although a reasonably priced memory card or two could get you there fast—but that doesn't mean you can't take music with you without toting a separate device. Using Windows Mobile and the Media Player that comes with it, you can easily access the music you store to the device or an expansion card for your listening pleasure.

Here's how:

Connect your device to your computer. A simple way to transfer your music is to click on My Computer„³ Mobile Devices and open your portable. Within it, you may want to select a dedicated music folder (or create one). Here, you also have the option of selecting the media card, if you have one available.

Copy music files from your desktop to your handheld using drag-and-drop. Bear in mind that sound files are large so if you're saving to device memory, you may not be able to fit much, or you may run out of room for Power Point, Excel or other large files.

Once you have transferred the files to your handheld, listening to them is easy: From your home screen, select Music„³Windows Media or select Windows Media from the Start menu.

You can also surf to the location where you stored the files, and double-click to open one.
