Tip: Windows Mobile - Setting Up Outlook E-Mail

You can download you Internet e-mail to Outlook Mobile with any Windows Mobile 6 Professional (Pocket PC) phone, such as the XV6800 Smartphone from Verizon Wireless, of course, But with this smartphone, a powerful slider with a horizontal QWERTY thumb-keyboard, the set-up process does take a little while, as it involves downloading a special software package.

Here’s what you need to do:

  •  From the Start menu, select Programs.
  •  Select Wireless Sync
  •  Select Start to begin the download. (When it's done, the unit will restart automatically.)
  •  Unless your employer tells you otherwise, leave the "My company has its own Wireless Sync server" box unchecked. Click next.
  •  Enter your password if you have one, or select No from the menu and you'll be prompted to create one. It must be at least 5 characters.
  •  Accept the terms and conditions and click Next.
  •  Enter the registration information.

  •  Select Internet email (unless you have a corporate set-up, in which case follow your employer's instructions) and put in your email address and password. Click next.
  •  You will receive an email confirming your set up. Your first sync will then happen automatically.
  •  You can change how Outlook manages and displays your messages. From the Start menu, choose Messaging. Select Outlook Email. Then from the menu select Tools'Options. Click on the Message tab to change message settings.
  •  Now, you can make use of the dedicated email button on the upper-left corner of the Smartphone.
