Although Nokia is the biggest seller of smartphones worldwide, the same can't be said about the U.S. market, where it rarely partners with carriers to reduce the cost of its powerful yet expensive line of what it calls multimedia computers. It seems Nokia is working hard to change this situation.
The cell phone giant's inked a deal with T-Mobile and Best Buy to make its advanced smartphones more widely available. You can now buy some of these unlocked handsets with a T-Mobile agreement at some Best Buy Stores.
Because you're signing up with T-Mobile when purchasing the North American Editions (with U.S.-friendly 3G wireless bands) of the Nokia N96, N78 and E71 smartphones, two to three hundred dollars are taken off the list price of the handsets. This drops the cost of getting an N96 to $600 from $900 and the E71 to $200 from $460.
No word yet on whether or not other Nokia smartphones will be offered in this manner. We’ll keep you posted.
