Receive Instant Weather Updates on Your BlackBerry

By Amy Mayer
October 31, 2008

Getting weather information whenever you want it is one of the perks of a smartphone. Now, BlackBerry users have an instant way to get up-to-the-moment weather info.

A free service from Accu-Weather lets users download to their home screens an icon that "displays high-level weather conditions based on weather data regularly "pushed" to the smartphone," Accu-Weather announced. Clicking on it takes the user into more detailed information, including hourly forecasts and severe weather alerts. Radar images are also available.

Point your BlackBerry to /www.accuweather.com/blackberry/push to download and sign up. The service is one of the new Web Signals features content providers are creating to leverage RIM's push technology.

Accu-Weather's new update service uses RIM"s recently announced BlackBerry Web Signals technology, which essentially brings the technology behind mob-e-mail leader's push e-mail system to other types of applications.
