T-Mobile G1 a Hit Already

Everyone knew the first Google Android-run phone, the T-Mobile G1, would be hot. But no one knew just how hot a commodity it would be. Now we do.

T-Mobile originally ordered half a million G1s from HTC, which it is building the phone for the carrier. It tripled that order to 1.5 million when it quickly sold out of its initial order.

Any G1 pre-ordered after the initial run of half a million won't be delivered to customers until after the launch date of October 22nd. T-Mobile plans to have a couple million additional available in stores on that day.

So if your anxious to get G1 quickly but missed the opportunity to pre-order one, you can take your chances at trekking down to a T-mobile store in 9 days to get a ‘gPhone’ in person. Check out www.T-MobileG1.com to see what store near you will be carrying the device.

The G1 will go for $179 with a two-year contract. Data plans range from $25 (unlimited data with 400 text messages) to $35 per month (no cap on the text messaging).
