At well over a year old, the Motorola Q is getting bit long in the tooth. It is well known that a follow up is in the offing, but so far there's been no indication as to when it'll be made available in the U.S. That is, until now.

Recent reports indicate that two new Motorola Q models, one, the Q9, for GSM networks, and another, the Q9m - like the original - for CDMA carriers will soon see light of day.

Both of these are Windows Mobile 6 Standard (formally known as Smartphone) devices - so no touch screen - with Bluetooth, microSD card slots, and cameras. As with the original Q, they'll be tablet-style smartphones with QWERTY thumb-keyboards.

The Boy Genius Report believes the Motorola Q9, with 3G HSPDA/HTMS cellular-wireless broadband but not Wi-Fi technology, on August 24th. It has an updated keyboard and sports an updated and sleeker look. It is already available in parts of Europe.

There's been no word as tp where or when a version of this smartphone without 3G, called the Q8, may be released.

Verizon may launch the Q9m later this month as well, according to the Internet rumor mill. This model will support Verizon and other CDMA carriers' high-speed EV-DO cellular-wireless technology.

Sprint is expected to eventually deliver the Q9m too.
