By James Alan Miller
The company, which hasn't released any details about its Foleo audio player, says it will show the software off at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in August. Foleo, a Linux-run device, arrives with basically two functions: To allow smartphone owners to access e-mail and the Web with a much larger (10-inch) screen and keyboard, and to have e-mail automatically synchronized between itself and a smartphone; starting with Palm's own Treo models. It will sell for $499 and weigh 2.5 pounds. Palm is banking on developers like NormSoft to bring out Foleo's full potential. It plans to ship a software development kit for Foleo about when the device first becomes available later this summer. Normsoft isn't the first developer to already announce its intention to support Foleo. Others include MotionApps with a Personal Information Manager, Astraware with games, Avvenu with remote access solutions, Bluefire with Virtual Private Network software, TealPoint with security, diet, paint, and game applications, and Six Apart with a number of different blogging services.
