By James Alan Miller
The reason: According to a posting on Palm's blog, there have been isolated reports of an installation issue that causes the device to continuously reset when applying the software update. Palm is looking into the issue and hopes to get the update back up as soon as possible. When that might be, Loeffler doesn't say. If you installed the ROM update and are experiencing problems, call Palm at 866-750-7256 for help.
Users have reported a number of bugs and performance issues concerning Palm's Treo 700p since its release a year ago. The long-awaited ROM update to address these issues is now available, but only for one carrier, Sprint. "We don't have a specific date for when the 700p MR [maintenance release] will be available for Verizon Wireless users at this time," Palms' Paul Loeffler states in a posting on the company's blog. So, it appears, the version of the ROM update for Verizon subscribers, not to mention other operators, will continue to missing in action for the foreseeable future. The likely culprit for the continued delay of the Treo 700p ROM update for Verizon users is a wait for carrier approval. Once Palm finishes getting one of these ready, the mobile operator(s) that offer the device must run its own tests before giving the okay for the ROM upgrade's distribution to customers.
