Rumor: BlackJack - Windows Mobile 6 Update June, Maybe Later

T-Mobile's got the Dash and AT&T (Cingular) the Samsung BlackJack. Both are Windows Mobile 5 smartphones built in the mold of RIM's BlackBerry with QWERTY thumb-keyboards.

Last week, T-Mobile started providing an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 for its Dash customers. If the Internet rumor-mill is correct, however, AT&T's BlackJack users won't receive their operating system update for at least another month, at least.

That's a long time to wait, considering Microsoft officially introduced Windows Mobile 6 back in February.

In the meantime, if your jonzing to improve the performance of your BlackJack, check out the ROM update Samsung made available for the device back in March.

This upgrade is supposed to enhance roaming capabilities, especially internationally. In addition, there are cosmetic user interface changes (several icons have been changed) contained within the update.

When AT&T finally releases its update for the BlackJack, you may see some of the same improvements as in the Dash. These include more reliable e-mail delivery, support for HTML formatted messages, a better browsing, and easier device management.

It also allows Windows Smartphones, like the Dash and BlackJack, to not just view but edit Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) documents for the first time.
