Alert: Treo 700p Maintenance Update Due This week

Users have reported a number of bugs and performance issues with concerning Palm's Treo 700p smartphone since its release a year ago. Palm recently confirmed on its blog that this ROM update is still on track for release this week.

The Treo 700p (see our review) was Palm's most advanced Palm OS (Garnet) smartphone until the company rolled out the Treo 755p a couple of weeks ago with carrier-partner Sprint.

Last month, Palm posted some details about what'll be in the 700p update. It'll include SMS send/receive performance boosts, MP3 playback, sped up phone app launch speed, among other things enhancements).

As a maintenance release, the software will bring together a number of enhancements and fixes based on information from call centers, online forums, carriers, retail stores, etc. It was beta tested internally and externally before being handed over to the mobile operator for final certification.

The 700p update must either be almost or nearly done with this last step.
