Spb Software House has updated its a news reader, Spb Insight, for Windows Mobile to version 1.5, bringing a new Today plug-in with two viewing modes and article thumbnails, a faster data storage system and other improvements to the table. The Today plug-in offers single article and list view modes, as well as the ability to adjust what channels to view on and determine how much real-estate it takes up on the Today screen. The software delivers full article texts through what Spb calls optimized channels for small handheld displays rather than just typical RSS summaries. This is done through Spb's Online Catalog, which lists optimized channels in addition to most popular RSS feeds.
This catalog, sorted by subcategories and popularity, aims to make it easier to subscribe to news feeds as well. There are no preinstalled channels. The software supports all versions of RSS and Atom news feeds, and can import info from local and online OPML files.
Spb Insight also provides for one-handed navigation, in addition to the ability to simultaneously update and read channels, and article thumbnails, according to the developer. Users can also read feeds offline with pictures.
Spb sells the news reader for $19.95. It is compatible with all Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6 Classic/Professional devices.
