By James Alan Miller
ACCESS, the company behind the fledgling ALP (ACCESS Linux Platform) operating system for smartphones, has updated the version of its NetFront Web browser for a more established mobile platform, Windows Mobile.
Actually, Netfront 3.4 for Windows Mobile is only for the Pocket PC edition of version 5 and not for the more recent 6 edition of Microsoft’s mobile-device platform. It is available as a technical preview or trial version (good until the end of February) as a free download. The browser supports the latest standard markup languages: HTML, XHTML (eXtensible HyperText Markup Language), and WAP2.0 (WML1.3). It can also display pages to which CSS (Cascading Style Sheet), ECMAScript (JavaScript), DOM (Document Object Model), or DHTML (Dynamic HTML) have been applied. With Netfront 3.4 for Windows Mobile, ACCESS says it has improved rendering speeds and introduced a PagePilot to enables you to see a whole page layout and select the part that you want to view; very iPhone or Opera Mobile like I have to say.
It has also added Visual Bookmarks or thumbnails of bookmarked pages(see below) to makes it easier for users to know which pages to select.
In addition to the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), a U.S. government block cipher encryption algorithm, the latest technical preview version of NetFront for Windows Mobile includes support for Camelliaa high-security, high-performance international standard cipherfor the first time. The trial version of Netfront 3.4 for Windows Mobile is available here in English. An edition for Japanese speakers can also be downloaded. Related Links:
