By James Alan Miller
Quickoffice's eponymous mobile office suite for the S60 platform is now compatible with Mail for Exchange 2.0, an application that uses Microsoft’s ActiveSync technology to allow some Nokia Eseries and Nseries smartphones to synchronize e-mail, calendar and contacts with an Exchange server.
The latest version of Quickoffice Premier 4.5 ($49.99) promises to provide seamless access to attachments (Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint) files through a new ‘Mail for Exchange’ view directly inside the Quickoffice application.
There's also a new top-level menu interface within each Quickoffice application to reduce the number of steps normally required for users to edit and respond to e-mail attachments on their smartphone, according to the company.
Mail for Exchange also adds support for Global Address List (GAL) lookup; the ability to accept and decline meeting requests; and on-device search of synchronized e-mails. Nokia says it also delivers better connectivity, Task synchronization and longer battery life for smartphones. Upgrading from any previous version of Mail for Exchange to 2.0 requires that you perform a Full Resync. That way you can use the new Task synchronization feature. To do this, start with the Mail for Exchange application and select Options > Full resync on your smartphone. For more on Mail for Exchange 2.0, see here. Related Links:
