A few months ago Blue Nomad released the first solution to allow Palm OS Treo users to wirelessly backup and restore their smartphones. The problem with BackupBuddy.Net Basic is it only protects data in the Palm platform’s native PIM applications: Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Memo data. Not nearly enough for those with a lot more information to secure, let alone the applications that use all that data.

Today, the company answered the needs of these users with BackupBuddy.Net Professional, which extends the service to the entire Treo, including all third-party software and data, even info stored on a memory card.

As with the Basic edition, Professional automatically and continuously works in the background to protect data by continuously sending it to the software developer's remote data center via the Internet over the air, through a technology Blue Nomad calls Trickle Backup, whenever BackupBuddy.Net detects changes to information—even with the display off and the unit in sleep mode.

Treo data is sent in the same encrypted (AES) format used by most banks and e-payments sites.

According to Blue Nomad, the software is designed to stay completely out of the user's way. So, for example, to determine if something has changed, it can very quickly (less than a second) scan the smartphone, and it doesn't need to access the network to do so.

Blue Nomad CEO Alexis S. Hinds says, “Treo users can now really not worry about theft of a device and its memory card, a damaged device or an errant program. By using BackupBuddy.Net Professional and its Trickle feature they can effortlessly restore all their device’s data in moments, whether on the original or a replacement device."

Both BackupBuddy.Net Professional and Basic are available now at discounted promotional pricing. So Professional goes for $19.95 for one year and $12.95 for six months, while Basic is $7.95 for a year $4.95 for a six months.

Although Blue Nomad asserts BackupBuddy.Net is extremely efficient, the company suggests users may want to consider a flat-rate data plan if they're going to actively use the Trickle Backup feature. Alternatively, they can manually backup at any time or use scheduled backups.
