By James Alan Miller
Palm/Vodafone's new Treo, which some are already calling the Treo 750v - although no offical name has been announced - will be the first Treo to work on GSM carriers' (like Vodafone) 3G networks. This would enable users to send and receive data (e-mail, video and the Web, for example) at about 400 to 700 kbps, comparable to what CDMA-operators like Sprint and Verizon can offer for Palm's Treo 700w and Treo 700p in the U.S. It is likely when Palm does offer a version of the Treo 750v (or whatever it ends up being called) in this country with Cingular, it'll be similar to the one sold by Vodafone, with the same high-speed UTMS technology. The new Treo will run Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC Phone platform with support Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack to have e-mail pushed wirelessly to it when used in an Exchange environment. It'll likely have a 240 x 240 pixel resolution display and won't feature an antenna like all previous Treos. We'll report more details as they emerge. The Vodafone Treo will hit multiple European countries besides the UK, including Germany, Spain, Italy and Netherlands by the end of the year, before expanding to other regions.
