Whenever BackupBuddy.Net detects changes to information on a Treo - even with the display off - it immediately sends the new data off when the handheld isn't being used; in the same encrypted (AES) format used by most banks and e-payments sites. The software is designed to stay completely out of the user's way. So, for example, to determine if something has changed, it can very quickly (less than a second) scan a Treo and doesn't need to access the network to do so.

Although BackupBuddy.Net is extremely efficient and compresses all data transfers, Blue Nomad says users may want to consider a flat-rate data plan if they're actively using the Trickle Backup feature. Alternatively, they may manually backup at any time or use scheduled backups.

BlueNomad hasn't determined how much BackupBuddy.Net will cost yet. It'll be based on a yearly subscription model at first, however. There will be Professional and Personal editions, with the Personal being the version in public beta right now.

The Personal version backs up only essential PIM files, including Contacts, Datebook, Tasks and Memos, while the Professional edition backs up all the files in main memory on a device. The company will begin to beta the Professional version once the Personal is officially released.
