Trickle Backup Treo

Blue Nomad's new solution to allow Palm OS Treo owners to wirelessly backup their smartphones is now out of beta. BackupBuddy.Net Basic—for the Treo 600, 650 and the just announced Treo 700p—automatically and continuously works in the background to protect Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Memo data by sending it to the software developer's remote data center via the Internet over the air.

Whenever BackupBuddy.Net detects changes to information on a Treo - even with the display off - it immediately sends the new data off when the handheld isn't being used through Trickle Backup; in the same encrypted (AES) format used by most banks and e-payments sites.

According to Blue Nomad, the software is designed to stay completely out of the user's way. So, for example, to determine if something has changed, it can very quickly (less than a second) scan a Treo and doesn't need to access the network to do so.

Although BackupBuddy.Net is extremely efficient, Blue Nomad said at the time of the beta launch that users may want to consider a flat-rate data plan if they're going to actively use the Trickle Backup feature. Alternatively, they can manually backup at any time or use scheduled backups.

"BackupBuddy.Net represents the culmination of our many years experience writing Palm OS backup software and is the most user-friendly and robust backup solution that we have ever developed,” said Blue Nomad CEO Alexis S. Hinds. “Treo users can now really not worry about theft of a device and its memory card, a damaged device or an errant program. By using BackupBuddy.Net and its Trickle feature they can effortlessly restore their critical data in moments, whether on their original or a replacement device."

BackupBuddy.Net Basic goes for $34.95 for a one-year subscription or $19.95 for a six month subscription. Introductory pricing of $29.95 for one year and $16.95 for six month subscriptions is available until June 1st.

A Professional edition that backs up all the files in main memory (including third-party applications, and not just data in PIM data)will be available at a later date. It is currently in beta.
