Soon-to-be-launched mobile virtual network operator (MVNO)
Helio has inked a deal with
Yahoo! to add full search, e-mail and IM capabilities, as well as news, sports, finance and movie information to its new line of handsets, the Kickflip and the Hero. The Yahoo! deal is meant to build on an earlier agreement with the 43-million strong MySpace social-networking site, announced in February.
Helio targets the younger end of the MySpace core demographic; those in the late teens and early 20s. The MVNO is named after Copernican's 16th Century Heliocentric theory of the Sun as center of the universe. The brand is supposed to conjure how central mobility - the mobile phone in particular - is in young peoples lives.
