Cingular Wireless is launching a portal devoted to the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I tournament, available through the MEdia Net option on subsribers handsets when they visit the main Sports page. The NCAA March Madness Portal is powered by technology from Crisp Wireless and the mLogic.

The carrier will offer exclusive broadband video highlights from CBS sports—two-minute clips delivered twice a day covering all 64 games through the entire tournament—for those with Cingular Video-enabled handsets. Cinglar Video launched last week and is available for two phones (the LG CU320 and Samsung ZX10) so far with a couple more to follow shortly (the Nokia 6282 and LG CU500).

Otherwise, the MEdia Net service delivers news, scoring updates and individual team tracking capabilities for competitors to a wide variety of Cingular phones. Cingular Bracket Challenge!, which is not too dissimilar to the new bracket feature on Avantgo's 2006 March Madness channel for handhelds and smartphones—lets you make, track and manage a tournament brackets entirely from your wireless handset.

In Cingular's case, users compete against each other for a chance to win a car. In addition, those who fill out brackets on CBS Sportsline.com receive game updates and score tracking for their leagues with regular text message alerts throughout each tournament round.

Additional Cingular March Madness features include a trivia contest for a chance to win $5,000,000 at the Men's Final Four in Indianapolis, a Mobile Hoops Game, and downloadable official school ringtones and wallpaper logos.

There's no additional charge for the service, although regular data fees apply.
