4 Gig Samsung SGH-i300x Ships

Samsung today followed up the first 3 GB smartphone, the SGH-i300, by dropping a phone model with an additional gigabyte, the 4 GB SGH-i300x. The only other advanced handset with the same size Microdrive is Nokia's upcoming N91.

With the SGH-i300x, there’s even 64 of RAM and a microSD expansion slot - for up to another gig of memory - should 4 gigabytes prove too paltry an amount of storage for users of the multimedia phone. The Windows Mobile handset measures 4.5 ix 1.9 x 0.8 inches (113 x 48 x 20 millimeters) and weighs 4.3 ounces (121 grams).

Of course, media playback is the name of the game with the SGH-i300x, with support for the MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA, ASF, WAV, and WMV formats. The smartphones also plays 64 polyphonic and MP3 ringtones, and there’s 3D surround sound, a digital power amplifier, graphic equalizer, stereo Bluetooth headset, and wheel dial navigation as well.

A 1.3-megapixel camera takes pictures up to 1280 x 1024 pixels in resolution plus MPEG4, H.263, H.264, WMV video. It has digital zoom and an LED Flash. And the SGH-i300x's display is a QVGA (240 x 320 pixel) resolution, 262,144 color type.

The smartphone’s standard 1,000 mAh Lithium Ion battery delivers up to 4 hours talk and 130 hours standby time on a single charge, while an optional higher-capacity 1,700 optional battery does even better at up to 7 hours talk and 200 hours standby.

The tri-band GSM is now shipping from a variety of carriers in Europe. No word yet on American availability.
