Palm's Vista beta release doesn't work
It's August of 07 and Palm still hasn't gotten their act together. After installing the Vista beta desktop software on a 64 bit system, I got an error message that there were no drivers for my device. The desktop software installed just fine, but there was no syncing.

Correction: Hotsync via USB *does* work
Immediately after submitting my previous post I was staring at the hotsync shortcut's properties (right-click on the "start" menu button, select Open, select Programs, select Startup, right-click on Hotsync and select Properties).
Turns out that on the Compatibility tab, ticking the "run this program in compatibility mode for XP SP2" checkbox, even without also ticking "run as an administrator", then hotsync sees USB, and better still hotsyncs work. Woo hoo!

Also tested Chapurra's TurboPasswords -- it works as well.

What _doesn't_ work, for either the Palm desktop or Turbo passwords, is help (!). Instead Vista pops up a silly window saying that winhlp32 is no longer shipped; essentially that the help files for otherwise working apps are obsolete. How lame is that?

Presumably somebody at some point will produce a converter into a Vista-supported format, if Palm / Chapurra don't fix their proggies first.

Desktop 4.1.4 USB sync does not work on Vista
Perhaps the previous poster was using serial, but I just installed Palm desktop 4.1.4 (including hotsync 4.1.0), and the Samsung SPH-i500 phone driver. All on the "golden" Vista release, downloaded from MSDN. When I tried to sync the phone, Vista reported that it was installing the USB driver for a "Palm handheld". However, right-clicking on the hotsync icon in the taskbar "tray" area shows only Local Serial, Modem and Network. No USB. Even starting hotsync manager as an administrator doesn't fix this. Needless to say, if hotsync manager doesn't understand Vista's USB then whether or not the USB driver loads it ain't going to work. And doesn't. :-(

Awaiting Palm's fix for this..

I have been using the palm desktop on the Vista LRC1 build 5600 and so far so good as to syncing the main applications. i have had issues with 3rd party apps such as ultrasoft's money syncing software and data viz's doc's to go. other than that, no major issues.
