By James Alan Miller With the latest edition, the company said it made the application easier to use through a new interface and the implementation of a profile selector and progress bar. An added Windows Installer options allow system administrators to repackage and perform customized deployments. While new photo support enables users to visualize contacts in Outlook on Palm OS and Windows Mobile devices. The company also added the ability for users to choose where their complete set of data resides—either in their desktop or groupware PIM or on their device, with the option to filter information in either direction.
Also, XTNDConnect PC now supports eleven languages and many specific new devices, including Palm's Treo 700p and 700w, Palm Z22, and Tungsten E2 as well as a number of added Sony Ericsson models. The software was already compatible with Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PCs and Smartphones, in addition to most other Palm, Sony Ericsson and NEC handset models.
Sybase iAnywhere senior manager Terry Orsborn told PDASteet the company took users wants and needs seriously when deciding what features to update and add. "iAnywhere really focuses on listening to its customers to improve and streamline its products. XTNDConnect PC 6.0 is further evidence of this," Orsborn explained. She added, "XTNDConnect PC 6.0 includes some of the top requested feature enhancements, including an improved user interface, and greater flexibility for data storage, delivering even greater ease-of-use to consumers who are looking for a secure, robust solution to synchronize e-mail, tasks, calendars and contacts between the most popular mobile devices and desktop applications." In addition to being available as standalone application, XTNDConnect PC is behind Motorola’s bundled desktop application and it is shipped with some Sony Ericsson, BenQ and NEC handsets, among others. More than 50 million copies of XTNDConnect PC have been distributed so far, according to Sybase iAnywhere. The software sells for $59.95 per user license, but drops to $39.95 for current XTNDConnect PC users. Related Links:
