Model 01+ portables cry out for the capabilities Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. With the new platform, OQO can now emphasize the product's touch screen capabilities.

OQO's CEO Jory Bell asserts, "Now users can choose between the OQO's integrated thumb keyboard with trakstik navigation or simply slide out the 01+ digital pen to access XP tablet's advanced handwriting recognition, E-ink and navigation."

According to Creative Strategies Tim Bajarin, OQO is catching up to the needs of the market. "There has been a strong demand for the tablet version on products like OQO's ultra-portable computer," he said. "This new product should go a long way towards meeting market demand."

An OQO vp told PDAStreet the company aims its computers at anyone, company or individual, who values Windows portability above all else. Potential customers also includes enterprises and industries (healthcare, insurance, retail) that want to mobilize a specific application (e.g sales force, patient care). The expectation is that organizations will deploy the handheld-sized PCs instead of heavier and bulkier tablet or notebooks.

Model 01+
Model 01+ measures a mere 4.9 x 3.4 x .9 inches and weighs the same 14 ounces as the original version, but has upgraded memory, a larger hard drive, faster connectivity, plus an internal speaker and an improved pen-based digitizer. So it comes with 512 MB RAM, a 30 GB hard disk (shock-mounted), and USB 2.0.

There's also a 1 GHz processor, 800 x 480 W-VGA 5-inch display (indoor/outdoor readable), 3D accelerated graphics with 8MB video RAM, a QWERTY thumb keyboard with mouse buttons and TrackStik, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FireWire (1394), a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, microphone, added support for screen rotation, new support for network boot (PXE), and a removable lithium polymer battery for up to a three hours of power on a single charge.
