Loyal devotees, a shared associate and archenemy in Microsoft and other similarities isn’t enough to have PalmSource make the Palm operating system (OS) as Mac friendly as could be. For years now, a company called Mark/Space has filled the void, providing a level of compatibility between Palm PDA or smartphone and Apple desktop or laptop not delivered by the Palm platform developer. Mark/Space released a major upgrade - version 5.0 - to its software, The Missing Sync, late last year. Today, it announced a free Universal Application update to the synchronization application to support Apple's new Intel-based Macs, which started shipping earlier this month. Due by the end of March, The Missing Sync 5.1 will ship as a universal binary, providing full support for both PowerPC and Intel Macs running Mac OS X. Mark/Space president and CEO Brian Hall says, "Native Intel processor support is the latest in a series of Apple technologies, including Sync Services and Spotlight integration, that we have built into The Missing Sync for Palm OS." The Missing Sync for Palm OS improves syncing with Address Book and iCal in Mac OS X 10.4 and adds iPhoto, iTunes and document synchronization, Wi-Fi sync, intuitive conduit management, desktop mounting of memory cards and other features not available with PalmSource's HotSync Manager. Mark/Space says Mac-to-Palm OS conduit developers can also leverage The Missing Sync framework to create future-compatible Palm/Mac conduits for their applications.
"Version 5.1 delivers on our promise to support Apple's Intel transition and provides what is by far the best Palm OS experience on the Mac platform," according to Hall. See Palm/Mac Compatibly Evolves for more about The Missing Sync features.
