I was talked into the Treo 650 by Verizon, price and some reviews. I was told that the h/w differences weren't that much and that the new OS was harder to use and not as functional. Also, I have an app that doesn't support the Windows Mobile OS yet, so I thought I'd try the650, keeping an open mind.I just couldn't do it. After trying it for a week, I ended trading it in to try the 700w. Why? The more I looked, the more upgrade I saw: twice the camera, faster processor, 4 times the memory, at least 5 times faster Internet speeds, a wifi card compatible memory slot that's provides 10 times the network speeds than the wifi "shell for the 650 and last but definately not least the MS Mobile 5 OS.
Sheewww! The OS on the two systems are huge, which is never mentioned in the reviews I've read. We all know how flat the Palm OS is, which can be fine if you're just doing some contact management, calendaring and apps. However, could you imagine using the palm OS on your laptop or your PC??? Well, PDA's have come a long way people! The new OS provides true depth and OS usability that the Palm OS just doesn't have. App navigation is great, allowing you to run several apps "deep" while being able to back out one at a time or going straight to the "Today" start menu to start something else.
The media player, Office Mobile apps, address book search capabilities, Today screen interface, access to system configuration and resources, built-in wifi config, media player and management, to name just a few, are all aspects of the 700w's OS that are head and shoulder's above the Palm's loved, but different OS.
Please keep in mind, I think the 650 is a great smart phone, just like I thought Windows 3.1, 95 and 98 were great operating systems at the time. However, with time comes innovation and the 700w is like upgrading to XP (to continue the analogy). If given the choice of your current system and going back to Windows 98, which would you choose?
There's so much more to say, but I've talked long enough as it is. I have the 700w and am head over heels, ectatically in love! EOS
