By James Alan Miller
DDH Software has finally introduced a version of its popular HanDBase relational database application for Symbian-based Series 60 handsets. A smart move since Symbian is far and away the most popular mobile device platform, while Series 60—developed by Nokia, and used in most of the 800 pound gorilla's smartphones—is the most common interface for the operating system.
First developed in 1999 for Palm and Pocket PC (now Windows Mobile) handhelds, HanDBase lets users store volumes of data that can be easily viewed, edited, filtered, sorted, and searched whenever information is needed. New Symbian users of the software gain immediate access to the many free databases submitted by HanDBase owners on other platforms. They can create their own through the HanDBase Desktop application, either from scratch or by building on any of the thousands of free or low-cost applets available on the DDH Software Web site.
Beyond its editing and design capabilities, HanDBase Desktop enables users to export files in Excel, Word, CSV, HTML or XML formats. HanDBase for Series 60 sells for $20. Related Links:
