Nokia Names Quickoffice Developer of the Year

By James Alan Miller
December 8, 2005

2005 was an eventful year for Nokia's Symbian-based S60 (formally Series 60) platform. There's been the name change (of course), upgrades and additions to the software, a new series of cutting-edge consumer-oriented handsets and more. Not only that, S60 maintained its place as the most popular of smartphone platforms, accounting for 60 percent of all converged devices, according to market research firm Canalys.

One of the most significant developments this year was the announcement of a licensing agreement between Quickoffice, Inc. and Nokia to bring Quickoffice's eponymous office suite to S60 phones.

Just how important? Quickoffice was chosen Developer of The Year in the Nokia's 2005 Forum Nokia PRO Awards this week.

Nokia presented the award to Quickoffice for its Quickoffice Premier software suite (Quicksheet, Quickword, Quickpoint), a mobile application that allows users to open, view, edit and create Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) directly from their smartphone with complete document integrity.

Forum Nokia Americas director Nasser Iravani said, "Quickoffice was selected by our panel of judges as the 2005 Developer of The Year because of its continued industry success, and commitment to driving new, innovative applications for the wireless market."

Quickoffice received 2006 Forum Nokia PRO membership at no cost as well as a dedicated company information page on Forum Nokia's public site.

Nokia says it chose Quickoffice because of its superior performance. "We are committed to providing users of smartphones with the best available software innovations as part of our platform offering. The Quickoffice software suite, with its leadership and innovation, meets these criteria.," says the Finnish phone giant's director of mobile software sales & marketing Matti Vanska.
