By James Alan Miller
In addition to Windows Mobile 5.0, the two N-series Pocket PCs, the N500 and N520, include GPS (global positioning system) receivers for navigation and location-based applications and services. As a convenience, they integrate SirfStar III/20-channel GPS antennas internally rather than externally.
The units' displays measure 3.5 inches diagonally and offer Pocket PC typical 240 x 320 pixel (QVGA) resolutions. Each device includes a Secure Digital slot as well. And the units measure 4.6 x 2.8 x 0.55 inches (116 x 71x 14 millimeters) and weigh 5.65 ounces (160 grams). Although both models offer 64 MB of RAM, the N520 integrates twice as much ROM with 128 MB to the N500's 64 MB. The higher-end model also delivers 802.11g Wi-Fi, while neither handheld offers Bluetooth. The N500 lists for 335 Euros, which today is equivalent to about $404, while the N520 goes for 361 Euros ($436). It is not known when or if the new Pocket PCs will ship in the U.S. See the articles listed below for advancements brought to Pocket PCs by Windows Mobile 5.0. Related Links:
