Iambic Upgrades Palm PIM Agendus

By James Alan Miller
October 26, 2005

Longtime mobile software provider iambic has updated its excellent personal information manager (PIM) for Palm platform PDAs and smartphones, Agendus, to version 10. In addition to new features, the company asserts the new Standard and Professional editions are now more intuitive and better optimized for one-hand operation, with mobile handsets like Palm, Inc.'s Treo smartphone in mind.

To simplify ease-of-use, iambic says Agendus now implements Web-style hyperlinks that enable users to move quickly from a meeting to a memo to placing a call or sending an e-mail/SMS message. This “one-tap” operation purports to be especially beneficial for Treo owners because they can operate their device with one hand, using the directional-pad (d-pad). Other d-pad-friendly features include an all-new icon-clustered toolbar and dialogs for setting alarms (now available for memos) and meeting times.

The user interface now has a new feature called Glance@Agenda, which automatically shows an optimized layout for viewing details of a meeting, call, task or contact. Plus, users can now see a whole year on their calendar at-a-glance.

For contact management, version 10 of Agendus has a new networking feature that allows users to establish relationships between contacts. This feature aims to makes it easier to navigate from one contact to another, which saves time and simplifies the management of a growing address book.

Professional
Version 10 of the Professional version of Agendus adds a trip wizard to make it easier to group together all trip-related activities to create an itinerary on a handheld. This edition of Agendus also expands upon the types of information that can be connected to a meeting, memo or To Do by enabling users to add voice recordings and drawings/sketches.

It is also designed to work directly with the Treo built-in camera. The new image picker feature enables users to crop photos (which is especially useful for getting a headshot from a group photo) to add to a contact.

There is also an option to download “This Day in History” information over over-the-air (OTA) for Web-enable Palm devices like the Treo. From the Contact view, users can also perform address verification and obtain driving directions OTA as well. The user can also select when and how often the OTA information is updated.

Version 10 of Agendus for Palm OS Professional Edition sells for $39.95. Agendus Standard goes for $29.95.
