By James Alan Miller
Quickoffice gained access to millions of smartphone users as a result of a new licensing agreement with Nokia last week. Today, chief competitor DataViz released its own Microsoft compatible mobile office suite, Documents To Go, for Nokia's 9300 and 9500 Communicators—both built on the Symbian operating system and Series 80 interface.
With this developement, the Documents To Go product line now supports Symbian UIQ, Symbian Series 80 and the Palm smart device platforms. The Series 80 version has received Symbian-Signed certification and provides owners of both the 9300 and 9500 with the ability to open, view and edit Microsoft Word and Excel files.
DataViz product manager Danny Tu asserts, "Documents To Go, with its support for common editing features and inclusion of InTact Technology, provides a solid document-editing solution that enhances the usefulness of these Nokia smartphones for a wide range of professionals, especially those exchanging and editing business-related files when out of the office." The company says InTact provides complete original document integrity when Microsoft Office files are edited by users on the smartphone, especially important for working with desktop documents containing complex formatting and layouts. Documents To Go for Series 80 is available immediately from DataViz, and will soon land at distributor Ingram Micro, retailers Office Depot, CompUSA and Franklin Covey, and online from Amazon.com and Handango.com for an introductory price of $29.99. It will sell regularly for $49.99. Related Links:
