Siemens mobile today launched its first mobile phone based on the Symbian operating system, the SX1, at the 3GSM World Congress 2003 in Cannes, France. Built on the open-source Symbian platform, the SX1 features a tailored Siemens mobile version of the Series 60 interface and application platform. This allows users to personalize their phones with downloadable content and applications. Siemens said the SX1 which will ship in Europe and Asia in the first half of this year. The phone's unique design features strips of keys built in to each side rather than a traditional keypad. Positioned below the 64,000 color display are several navigation keys and a joystick that enable the user to navigate in the usual portrait mode or, if the application supports it, in landscape mode. The SX1 packs a built-in video player, camcorder, music player and FM radio; Java support; and PDA-like business applications including local and wireless synch. Related Links:
