Sony Ericsson and Handango have opened the Application Shop Client for the Sony Ericsson P800, P802 and P900 smartphones.

With the Application Shop Client, users can search, download and purchase Symbian OS applications directly to and from their phones. The P900 made its debut this week.

The on-device software catalog is provided by Handango and the over-the-air download client is developed in conjunction with Bitween, an Italian developer. Because the Application Shop Client runs locally, the companies claim it offers a rich graphical interface and fast response times.

Currently, there are more than 500 applications listed. Users can access product descriptions, user ratings, prices and screenshots, and can try out software over a wireless connection. Software categories include games, utilities, entertainment, productivity, business and travel software.
