Psion Teklogi, a division of Psion PLC that specializes in mobile computing solutions for the enterprise, has partnered with Dynasys to enable airlines to test the accuracy and thoroughness of passenger screening agents with a new Body-Scan System.
The Body-Scan system, designed by Dynasys, is similar to metal detection devices but uses Psion Teklogix Workabout mx, a handheld device that Psion Teklogi said could withstand a 3.3-foot drop on to concrete, and Dynasys' radio frequency identification (RFID) transponder devices. The Body-Scan system is used to train and test the screening accuracy and speed of security checkpoint agents.
According to the companies, to test and train agents different sized RFID transponders are hidden in carry on luggage and on various locations on mannequins. Agents conduct their screening procedures with the Body-Scan system and attempt to locate all of the hidden tags. When the agent scans the mannequins, they experience the same audio/video feedback as when a metal detector is used. Managers are immediately notified of the number of RFID transponder devices the agent has identified in a certain period of time and can provide a qualitative score for each security checkpoint agent.
